1) I am not calling Jaron Mays out for anything. If you reread the article, you'll see that I don't contradict a single thing he says. What I do is supplement his comments with some remarks about the privileged white guys I know.: that there are plenty of comfortable ass white guys as well, but they are protected from the consequences of their behavior and character by their privilege.
2) The idea that there are lanes that people are supposed to stay in based on their DNA and skin colors is evil, pure and simple. Among many other things, it ghettoizes writers like Jaron, whose influence would be diminished if he were only permitted to engage in dialogue with other black people. Jaron is no shrinking violet, who needs to be protected by white saviors. He is a tough and agile debater, who can hold his own with anyone.
