A similar linguistic phenomenon is retronyms. These are things that had to be renamed because of changes that happened over time. An example is “acoustic guitar“ which emerged only as a means to distinguish them from electric guitars. Another example is “the middle ages“. When they were happening, nobody thought of them as being in the middle of anything, because at the time they were taking place right now.
