According to the Washington Post, he had a temporary appointment as a command sergeant major, but when he retired he was a sergeant major. So if he had said he was a former Command Sargent major, instead of a retired Command Sargent major, he would have been telling the truth. And when you say he was not a Command Sargent Major you are not telling the truth. I will assume you are honestly mistaken rather than being deliberately misleading here.

It's absurd to call yours or his minor slip of the tongue a Whopper. Almost every military loss is reported in round numbers. Would you say that those reports are lies because they say things like 5,000 people were killed instead of 5,027? It's equally absurd to say there is no difference between Walz' technical imprecision and Trump's claiming he won an election when dozens of court room investigations have proven that he did not.

I actually did see a letter to the Editor in which someone said that they were going to vote for Trump because Walz is a liar. That borders on lunacy.
