You can’t stop the pain of racism caused by banning symbolic expressions, and eventually that will become so obvious that people will stop trying. I doubt that will happen in my lifetime, however The injustices and pain caused by racism runs too deep, and sacrifices must be made to atone for it. The sacrifices made are often unjust and beside the point, hence the term “scapegoat“. but they are nowhere near as unjust as racism itself. I think the appropriate response from us privileged people is to let this fury burn itself out. we are not yet in a position to judge which of these changes ought to be permanent.
