Are you seriously claiming that your parents were racist just because they liked Elvis Presley? If that's only a sample, it's a poor choice. The celebrity of white performers who first played black music did not erase the black entertainers. On the contrary, it was the thing that gave them exposure. Not only did they often collect royalties from the white performers, but the white recordings brought attention to the black artists and greatly increased their sucess as performers. Before the rise of Clapton and other white blues players, B.B. King was playing the Chitlin circuit. By the sixties, King was playing for thousands of people at Festivals and Concert Halls. It is a scandal that white audiences did not accept black artists the way they accepted the white imitators. But the White Artists helped to remove those barriers. They did not create them.
