As a philosopher, I had to teach logic even though I was terrible at math. So I had to learn why I was terrible at math, using what I had learned from cognitive science. if I had been good at math, I would’ve solved all the problems subconsciously, and would never been able to explain to the students how to learn to do it.
After a few years, I actually did develop a technique for turning mathphobes into math whizes. it did work most of the time I was teaching, and it worked for some of my colleagues as well. I describe it here.
