because I am a Heidegger scholar, the issue of Heidegger’s Nazism is of great importance to me. I wrote this paper as a rebuttal to the most extreme accusations made against him. Basically your description of him as a “confused Nazi” is accurate, although the people who are criticizing him are in their own way as confused as he is. even in the black notebooks, Heidegger never accepted the idea that there was such a thing as a Jewish race. His antisemitism was an attack on what he saw as Jewish culture, He believed that anyone could free themselves from these alleged weaknesses, which is why he had many (ex)Jewish friends and students. This antisemitism was pretty vile stuff, intellectually preposterous and morally repellent, but could not be used to justify the holocaust.
