everything I am telling you is based on My memory of a brief email correspondence with a friend of mine who is an Hasidic Jew. It is true to the best of my knowledge, but I am no authority.
One of the things my friend said to me was that when 19th century antisemites said that Jews were “rootless cosmopolitans“ they were correct. He said “the Torah is our only homeland“. Hence I don’t think he cares that much about blood ties to Israel. It is commitment to the Jewish tradition that makes you Jewish.
Hasids do believe that Jews will eventually return to Israel, which is their proper homeland, but only after the messiah comes. Consequently, they believe the modern state of Israel is a terrible mistake which misinterprets the intention of Jewish sacred texts. He cites the terrible bloodbath and exploitation that is arisen from its attempted establishment as strong evidence that God does not approve of the modern state of Israel.
I’m a Buddhist, so I don’t have a dog in this fight. However, It seems obvious to me that my friend and his fellow Hasids are not anti-semitic as they spend almost all of their time studying Hebrew sacred texts, praying to the Hebrew God, and keep all the dietary and clothing laws of orthodox Judaism
