I admire the mental clarity and self-discipline that enables any black person to watch that film and still see its greatness. Even though I am white, I could only make myself see it once.
And yet it is a great film, and it is also an evil film. It is Morally evil precisely because it is great artistically. If it it had been a bad film artistically, it could never have hypnotized so many people into thinking the Klan was good. That is a principal first articulated by Saint Augustine, and later by C. S. Lewis. Evil is only good corrupted, and does damage only when there is something good for it to corrupt.
