I haven’t seen the entire exchange, and I don’t feel like diving into the sewer which is Twitter/X in order to find it. But it looks like part of the problem was that Rowling and Carabello meant different things by the word “first“. It’s obviously wrong to say that LGBT people were the Nazis first victims, in the sense of being first in the sense of priority. Obviously, the Jews held that regrettable title. But LGBT people were amongst the very first victims of the Nazis chronologically. That’s because the first major massacre by the Nazis was the Night of the Long knives, in which the Nazis were purging out those people whom Hitler saw as a threat to his power, and/or repellent to his sensibilities. There were a lot of gay storm troopers when Hitler joined the Nazis, and they were among the first people Hitler killed. But of course, his first priority was always extermination of the Jews.
