I hope it is still possible to see Nate Parker‘s brilliant movie “birth of a nation“ about Nat Turner. He gave a compelling and plausible background story that made Turner’s actions fully justifiable.
unfortunately, Parker’s film career was destroyed by the publicizing of his sexual encounter with a young woman who later deeply regretted it and committed suicide. Even though he was fully exonerated in the inquiry that followed, news of this story inspired a boycott that made it impossible for him to ever make another film.
