I understand your feelings. The word was obviously meant to be abusive when it was first used in this context, but it has been qualified to become something that is essentially identical to your word "advantage". But we don't get to recreate our language from scratch. Marginalized people do get to do some editing at this point in history, but not us privileged people. And that's the way it should be. The annoyance this abuse causes us is trivial, and we should just get over it.
