I wasn't responding to that one paragraph (or the title, which really only refers to that one paragraph). I was responding to the first part where your complain that "every big show is littered with the political opinions of its production company". My point is that the old movies you are praising are equally political. You're just used to hearing those political opinions, so you don't notice them.

Your quote from Chris Gore says the new star wars movies "lecture" the audience. Strictly speaking, that is false. No one stares directly at the camera and lectures. You and he just feel lectured at by the mere sight of black and female protagonists. What you don't notice is that having all of your protagonists being white males makes the implicit claim that such people are always the center of every story, and women and BIPOCs are only side kicks, love interests, and comic relief.
