I’m not sure that anybody was actually mad at Whoopee for this. Twitter is a big place, and almost anything will piss off somebody somewhere. But all the comments I saw were conditionally defending her with “She’s wrong, but….” . That seems to me to be what you are doing. However, I think the problem was not racism against her, but wokephobia by terrified bureaucrats. People imagine that someone will be offended, so they disproportionately punish Whoopie for a thoughtless gaff. These are the same people who made Ricky and Lucy sleep in twin beds in the 50s. It’s just a different set of taboos, but in both cases the taboo is a strawman that some people think everyone else is afraid of, but nobody actually is.
