Karen is a term originally from AAVE. Few if any black women have enough privilege to be a Karen.

If the waiter had been white, anyone reading his article would’ve accused him of being complicit in patriarchy. If the waiter had been black, the commenters on his article would have heard the story told from his side (which would of course leave out all the internal dialogue and backstory which made us so sympathetic to the woman), and she would have been accused of racism for threatening his job.

Personally, I am agnostic about who if anyone is to blame here. The couple needs to work on their relationship, as he seems to be giving her 1000 little pinpricks that are draining her life blood away. But he probably doesn’t know that, and there’s no way that the waiter could’ve known that. (Unless he read her article, which does a great job of helping us see the world through her eyes and feel her pain.)
