Little black Sambo is racist because the author can't tell the difference between a black Indian and a black African. The tree main characters--Sambo Mumbo and Jumbo--are drawn to look like Africans, and half African sounding names, but they live in a jungle with tigers, and there are no tigers in Africa. The book is racist because it assumes that all black people look and act alike no matter where they come from. I will defend every book of Dr. Seuss with my last breath (although there are a couple of pages that need to be updated.) But Little Black Sambo deserves to die, except in museums about racism.
