One of the most toxic aspects of college culture is condemning somebody else's activity as "slacktivism" and insisting you are socially irresponsible and less you do whatever it is they do. The worst example was people who condemned the safety pin movement, and insisted those people should've been wearing black lives matter T-shirts instead. I haven't put up any Instagram posts about BLM because I don't have an Instagram account. But I have posted a few critiques on facebook of the "few bad apples" argument (Mine weren't as funny as Chris Rock's, but I do what I can.) I am also reading everything I can about police brutality, so I can get a good sense of what would be the best way to combat it. And when election time comes, I'm going to vote for candidates who support programs that will actually work, and are not just empty slogans like "abolish the police". Anybody who puts up Instagram posts about BLM and doesn't vote is a slacktavist.
