One of the reasons they insist that you don’t want to talk about race is that you don’t ever talk about race. I’ve read several of your articles, and I have yet to see a single one that actually argues for or describes any negative impact by race. Instead, what you always do is claim that an issue usually thought of being a racial issue is primarily a class issue. You are often right about this, and your conclusions are always well documented and well-argued. But you never go on from there and explain what aspects of the problem are still racial issues. This gives many people, both detractors and admirers, the impression that you are trying to deny that race is a factor at all. That’s why you had to write an article like this one. I would suggest that you devote some small portion of each article to describing how racism still does uniquely oppress people of color, even when we factor out the forces that are actually class rather than race-based. That way, you could still prioritize the importance of class, without giving the impression that you were denying the impact of racism altogether.
