perhaps contradict is too strong a word. When he talks about lobsters, he says nothing about cooperation or reciprocity, because, as he admits, lobsters don’t have any social life. Most people take what he says about lobsters as a way of dismissing the importance of cooperation and reciprocity, because social interactions are fundamentally about dominance. it’s also seen by people who hate Peterson as a defense of toxic masculinity. It’s hard to find Peterson either rejecting or accepting this interpretation, because he relies so heavily on innuendo, and never fully states a lot of his implied conclusions. It would be nice to see Peterson take a look at the differences between lobsters and rats, and who knows, from there he might even start talking about how human and other primates differ from lobsters.
