Plenty of eloquent arguments here for reforming police. Not a single word about how abolishing police would solve these problems, although it makes a good case for not having police in the schools. Crime exists, and innocent people need to be protected from it. That is the proper function of the police force, which today's police are clearly not performing. We need some other government organization who will perform that function, and clear well-formed outcomes of what that organization would look like. I would propose an elected civilian review board that would have the power to fine and fire police officers who are racist, violent etc. But whether that would work or not would depend on the details.
Talk about abolishing police, however, makes it impossible to even consider such programs. more on this below.
