Some conservative Americans have made a similar argument against nationalized healthcare. They claim it discriminates against young people, who pay far more out in premiums than they get back. Older people end up using the majority of health services and it's not fair for them to be subsidized by the younger people. The answer to this objection, and yours, is that young people are not a separate marginalized group, because eventually they grow up and become older people. It’s true that not all of them succeed in doing this. But when someone is bleeding to death in a gutter at the age of 35, they are not thinking “Darn! Now I’ll never be able to collect on all those health insurance premiums I paid.”
