That same inference, substituting “white“ for “black“, can be found in almost every article written by Marley K., Kay Valley and numerous other Medium writers on racism. It’s not racism, of course, because of the social power differential. But it is bigotry, and any attempt to modulate that bigotry with a request for a change to “some white people” is ridiculed.
I actually do think there is an important difference here, but I’m not sure how to define exactly what it is. I’m working on an article on the subject now. I think the overall point of your article is basically right, although it’s weakened by what’s happened with this case since you wrote the article. I read this article because it showed up in my feed. My guess is you wouldn’t have chosen to focus attention on this article right now. have you written anything on this case since then?
