The problem with this strategy is that it never ends. The conservatives mean the same thing by the word “woke” that you and I do. They just have a different evaluation of those qualities. They think being woke is an insult, we think it’s a compliment. But if you let them have that word, they will take whatever new word we substitute for it and turn that into an insult. It’s better just to admit that we are woke and proud. Just because they think it’s an insult doesn’t mean we have to think it is. People on the right coined the phrase “social justice warrior” as an insult. But a lot of us have adopted that expression as a badge of honor. How could there be anything wrong in fighting for social justice?
Because liberal people are usually well educated, and well educated people like to make fine and precise distinctions with words, there are often Heard to make cries of “substitute word X for word Y”. But ultimately that kind of substitution is a waste of time I think. “Homeless “is now seen as an insult, and so now we must refer to homeless people as “houseless“. But tomorrow “houseless” will also be seen as an insult and the merry-go-round goes around again
