There are checks and balances in the system which are designed to stop the president from becoming a dictator. But those are only words. They only have force if there are people with enough courage and integrity to stand up for the law. That was the only thing that keep Trump from seizing power. Trump however, is busily planning to replace those people with stooges who have complete loyalty to him. If he succeeds in that, there will be nothing to stop him.
