there is no inconsistency in Obama criticizing the slogan “abolish the police“ and himself being a frequent user of slogans. When he came out against The Iraq war, he said “I’m not against all wars. I’m just against dumb wars.“ Obama, as a master slogan maker isn’t against slogans. he’s just against dumb slogans that make your position look worse than it actually is.

The NY Times article by Ms. Kaba that you quote is actually a perfect example of this. The title of the article says she wants to abolish the police, and then the article itself says that she doesn’t. I go into this in more detail below.
