Donate to the police reform
I’m not all for abolishing the police and closing the prisons as we need law enforcement in this country. What I am for is the need for better police relations with the community ensuring accountability of police violence. Campaign Zero, is by far a politically neutral organization that focuses solely on police reform. . . .
Black women, it’s okay to call the police
It’s distressing to hear that black women are most unlikely to call the police. According to the CDC, with the high incidences of white police officers using excessive force on black men, most black women often refuse to call for help, even when their own lives are in danger. There’s the belief that women should stand by their partners, no matter what, and prevent contributing to police brutality rates against black men.
As a result of the stereotype of black women being “strong”, “masculine”, and “soldiers” are taught early on to protect the black community, no matter how dangerous the situation maybe. That means, black women victims of domestic violence may stay silent to shield the black community from receiving negative attention. Black women, it’s okay to call the police as it’s not your job to protect the community. It’s a losing battle and an impossible endeavor. There’s only one of you. When you’re long gone, the community and the problems it faces will remain. Protect yourself as no one else will.
