There's lots of information on the Internet, but most of it is wrong. If you grow up in an educated privileged household, you can find people who will help you sort through the bullshit. But if not, you have no way of knowing whether what you are learning is true. That's why it's essential that college should be free or nearly so. It is the only way of making up for the huge difference in socialization that gives rich people an advantage over the poor.

It's not the content you learn in college that is important. It's the principles of critical thinking and scholarship that you learn from the professors. That's why you spent more time talking about the subject in your classes than having facts shoved into your head.
