These people are all heroes, and deserve our praise and respect. But there are ways of being Pro-Black which are less heroic, but arguably benefit Black people more. You can measure heroism by how much harm you do to yourself, but it seems to me more important to measure it by how much good those white people did for Black people. Branch Rickey and Sheldon Leonard didn't sacrifice anything by opening doorways for Jackie Robinson in baseball and Bill Cosby in television. On the contrary, their willingness to take risks that other white men feared made them both wealthy men. But the fact that they helped to break down racial barriers still gives them legitimate claims to being pro-black.
