This is a really good paraphrase of the position you are critiquing. In fact, it's much better than your critique. Power is indeed like money, and there is no reason why either has to be seen to be valuable only in relation to to how much others have. There are some people who seem to want money only because it makes them think they are better than other people. But most of us just want money so we can pay our bills and lead reasonably comfortable lives. This is why marginalized people want power: because the inequities of society make it impossible for them to do this. Many formerly marginalized groups have sought power for themselves to overcome their marginalization, (the Irish and the Italians in America for example) And currently marginalized people have every right to do this now.
