This is a very good response, and shows the problem is not as simple as I thought it was. It never is in philosophy, and especially not in ethics. Another factor is that Chapelle has an obligation as a comedian to not run away from controversial topics just because there are a few people who will be triggered by them. How do you weight each of those factors to make a decision? Very hard to say, which is why it is so difficult to chose the right course of action. We humans have it hard.
