this is exactly the same argument which is used by pro-life people for making all abortion illegal. If you think women should be allowed to to choose whether to become parents, you can’t use this argument to say men have no right to choose. Also, checking to see whether your partner is using contraception is taking precautionary measures. If a woman commits fraud by lying when asked this question, she is the one who is at fault.

this example is made somewhat less morally complicated by the fact that the pregnant woman is a liar and a con artist. When all the parties are operating in good faith, this is a heart wrenchingly complex question with no easy answer. Sometimes the woman’s choice is unfair to the man, but I would argue that the choice should still remain hers. I discuss this further here.
