The logical assumption, made by people who object to “Latinx”, is that eventually people will get penalized for using “Latino”. Try using the word “Negro” almost anywhere today, and you’ll see why both Latinos and Anglos make that assumption. Even in this article, you are accusing Latinos who refuse to use “Latinx” as being dupes of white racism who have “fallen for rhetoric”. Grant them the dignity of recognizing that they are rejecting the word because they don’t want some smarty-pants college prof telling them how they should refer to themselves.

Banning the word is every bit as misguided as creating it, and motivated only by the desire to use wokeness as a Republican weapon.
