Your story reminds me of a scene in the movie "Get Out". The black protagonist mentions that he almost hit a deer driving up the road, and his white host goes into a long rant abouthow the deer are invading the neighborhood, destroying the lawn etc. Because I'd been seeing the story from the point of view of the protoganist, I empathized with his feeling that he is personally being attacked indirectly. Only a movie could enable me to experience a situation that you must live with all the time.
