And that's precisely why the Government must not make these decisions for the individual. The essence of the separation between Church and State is that there is a fundamental difference between what is illegal and what is merely immoral. In a well run secular state, all illegal actions actions would be immorall. But there would be lots of arguably immoral acts that would remain legal, because we cannot resolve our arguments about morals without creating something like the Spanish Inquisition. more on this here.
